Positive Behavioral Intervention & Support (PBIS)
Perhaps your child has already mentioned that Klahowya has implemented a new Positive Behavioral Intervention & Support (PBIS) system of discipline.  The goal of this system is to minimize disruptive behavior and help students take ownership of their actions.  A great deal of pre-teaching will be done in the early part of the school year, and we anticipate going through some growing pains.  However, similar systems have been implemented in schools throughout our state and nation with great success.  Please partner with us and your child as we work toward making Klahowya an even safer and disruption-free place to learn.  For more information, please view the
Student Expectations Presentation which outlines our new system.  This presentation was shared with students during the first two days of school.
Newberry Hill Heritage Park
The NHHP stewardship group is parents, students, staff, and citizens working to turn the forest around Klahowya into a wonderful outdoor educational and recreational area.  Donations of the following items will help the volunteers immensely: hand tools, cedar logs 8’ or larger, use of a portable saw mill, landscape fabric, drain rock, treated lumber, or logging tools.   Also, if you wish to donate cash or larger items to the group, we are a federal 501(c)3 non-profit, so donations are tax deductible.  Contact Tom Coleman at 662-4056 or to help out.
Destination Imagination
Destination Imagination is a fun, team-based problem solving competition for grades 7 through 12.  Categories include engineering, play writing, technical construction, solar technology, and comedy improv.  If your son or daughter is interested, he/she needs to put together a team of 4-7 friends and come see Mr. Coleman before Sept. 30th.
